Youth Summit 2026
WOLTI Reflection
Listening, Learning, and Acting Together
On Friday, 10 April 2026, the Youth Summit brought together voices that matter most—young people with lived experience, courage, and a vision for a better future.
Led by Luke Twyford, Chief Executive and Principal Commissioner for Youth at the Queensland Family and Child Commission, the event stood out as a genuine example of meaningful engagement. It was not simply a forum for discussion—it was a space built on honesty, inclusion, and real value.

Youth Leadership in Action
A powerful reflection of this commitment was seen through Ruby, a returning youth participant who has grown into a confident and articulate presenter. Having previously contributed as a young speaker, Ruby took on a leading role this year, guiding the event with clarity, authenticity, and strength.
Her closing address was deeply moving—one that resonated beyond the room and left a lasting impression. It was not just inspiring; it was a call to action. A reminder that when young people are given the platform and support to lead, they rise—and they bring others with them.
What Young People Are Telling Us
Throughout the summit, young voices delivered clear, consistent, and undeniable messages about the changes needed in our society. These were not abstract ideas—they were grounded in lived experience and real challenges.
Key priorities identified included:
• Early intervention to prevent violence and trauma before they take hold
• Acceptance of cultural differences, grounded in unconditional respect
• Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, including deep connection to Country
• Safe and stable living environments, both in-home and in out-of-home care, where young people are supported with love, respect, and opportunities to grow
• Equitable access to medical and essential services, particularly in rural and remote communities
These are not optional improvements—they are essential foundations for a just and honest society.
From Consultation to Collaboration
One of the most important takeaways from the summit was this: young people are not just participants in the conversation—they are leaders of it.
As adults and professionals, we were not there to instruct—we were there to learn.
The insights shared made it clear that real, lasting change will not come from consultation alone. It requires true collaboration—working alongside young people, valuing their lived experience, and empowering them to co-design the systems that impact their lives.
WOLTI’s Commitment
At WOLTI (Walk of Life Training Inc.), this aligns directly with our mission. We believe that every young person carries strength, potential, and purpose—especially those who have faced hardship.
The Youth Summit reinforced what we see every day in our work:
When young people feel safe, heard, and supported, they don’t just heal—they lead.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Luke Twyford and the Queensland Family and Child Commission for creating a platform that truly honours youth voices.
Now, the responsibility sits with all of us.
To listen.
To act.
And to build a future—together
